Quebec business owners have requested the government of the province to improve immigration instantly to support to reduce chronic labor shortage.
Quebec Employers Council says higher number of immigrants is required to avoid slowing the economy of Quebec Province.
Quebec's historic low rate of unemployment 4.9% is symbolic of the employers' struggle that they are facing with finding the correct people to fill openings.
However, the government of the Quebec province, the Coalition Avenir Quebec, intends to decrease immigration by 20% to about 40,000 immigrants in 2019, with small yearly increases after that.
The CAQ argued that a drop in immigration was required to enable the overhaul of the province's immigration system for integrating current immigrants.
It started in August the latest integration program named the 'Personalized Career Pathway.' Immigrants will get support from the Quebec immigration ministry (MIDI) officers from prior to their arrival, to immediately integrate them into the Quebec community and labor market.
However, companies are stating they want people more instantly to promote their businesses growth.
CAQ discussions are taking place in the current week to hear from stakeholders on its plan of immigration between 2019 and 2022.
Council figures reveal there are presently 120,000 unfilled jobs in the province of Quebec at all skilled levels. As the median age of the Quebec population rises, the shortage is assumed to become more critical.
The CAQ's policy of immigration has been a source of debate ever since the party got power last year.
After publishing the decreased levels of immigration, it then moved to improve the system of skilled migration, and in the process canceling plenty of appeals that were in the backlog.
The latest Expression of Interest system, which runs by the Arrima portal, which works similar to the Canadian Express Entry system. Applicants first provide a profile to an Expression of Interest Bank, and the top-scoring profiles chosen and announced with an invitation to appeal for Quebec immigration.
