The Department of homeland security on Monday declared an increase of 15,000 additional foreign workers. These workers are hired for fisheries and hospitality Industries for a short span of time. Due to the seasonal works of these industries, it faces heavy shortages of these workers, as local labors are unwilling to take up the job.
As the decision was publicized for permitting more low-wage foreign workers, it came as a surprise to many as President Trump himself opposed the immigration and was in support of hiring American workers more.
As per the reports, a senior official of Homeland security stated that its a 45% increase in the number of H2B visas that are subsequently issued in the second half of the financial year.
These Visas would be strictly issued to workers who are willing to take up the temporary jobs in tourism, construction, landscaping, seafood and other seasonal industries.
Businesses or employers can start applying for the Visas this week but should provide some documents to prove that irretrievable harm would be caused to their company if they would not hire foreign workers and hence the company would face a severe financial loss.
Asked on how permitting more foreign workers into the US would align with America's first policies that promoted “ Made in America”. It fits the Trump campaign was the reply from one of the officials of Homeland Security. He added saying that “If American business is at risk of suffering an irretrievable harm, due to lack of employees then it's the right decision to hire the foreign workers.
The official also stated that Businesses appeals would be considered on a first come first serve basis and the normal processing time of the applications would be 30 to 60 days. If there is an urgent requirement of employees from any business, then they are required to pay an additional fee of $1225.
