I heard that there is some quota on work immigration to South Africa. Can anyone provide me some more details about it?

Yes, South African Government publishes list of occupations called scarce skills list. If your profession falls under this list you can apply under Quota Work Permit (http://mysouthafrica.org/immigration/work-in-southafrica/south-africa-work-permit-visa/139) to go to South Africa for work. To qualify  for quota work permit, you need not have a prior job offer in hand and you will have 90days once visa is issued to go to South Africa and search for job.
