The immigration department of Australia forecasts that the international student arrivals will rise and the student departures will decline as a consequence of visa changes and work incentives.
It is likely that the student arrivals will increase to 123,100 by the end of 30 Jun 2018, according to the latest prediction for Net Overseas Migration (NOM).
After the Knight Review changes implemented in 2011, students, who came to Australia for higher education, have benefited from the faster and simpler working methods of visa approvals and the work rights for two to four years after graduation.
The immigration department says that NOM arrivals are likely to attain 536,400 through the coming four years from December 2014 including the rise of student arrivals. While more number of students complete graduation and become engaged with post-study work rights, the department hopes for dramatic outcome in NOM departures.
Students engaging in post-study work visas are likely to rise from March 2015.Consequently, student departures is likely to decline remarkably through the coming year, according to the immigration department.
Starting from July 2013 to March 2014, 493 post-study work visas were granted. Of these, 140 went to Indians while 99 went to China.
