Indians have formed the second largest group of international students with the enrollment of 113,813 students in educational institutions and universities of US, according to an official report.
More than three-fourth of the Indian students are enrolled in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses. Seventy eight percent of the international students from India are studying in STEM fields.
Of the 351,397 international students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, Asian students have accounted for 85%.
At present there are 1,015,178 students pursuing their studies in US and 188,382 students on an Exchange visitor (J-1) visa.
Since 1st January, 2014, Indian students have registered an increase of 8% in the enrollment at the universities and the educational institutions, holding the second place followed by South Korea (91,583) and Saudi Arabia (72,223).
A school has to be SEVP certified before it can take in international students. 77% of SEVP certified schools had between 0 to 50 students. 72% of the international students were enrolled in the doctoral, bachelor’s or master’s degree. New York, Florida, California had most schools that are SEVP certified.
