Entrepreneurs in Copenhagen create more permanent jobs than in the rest of Denmark.
According to a new report, new entrepreneurial companies established between 2003 and 2009 created more than 27,000 jobs in the Capital Region of Denmark in 2011. This corresponds to 15% of total employment in the private business sector. Nationwide the figure is 11.8%.
The new report, published by the City of Copenhagen’s business service and eStatistic, also shows that there has been a significant increase in the number of new companies setting up in Copenhagen. In 2010, the rate of establishment was 11% in Copenhagen compared to 7.7% in the rest of the country. Furthermore, there has been an increase in the number of companies surviving: 63% of the companies, which were established in 2008 were still active in 2011.
Entrepreneurs are important for job creation in Copenhagen. Therefore the City of Copenhagen is working on getting more people to set up their own company, and on ensuring that these companies survive. Among other things, the City of Copenhagen is offering free counselling and courses to entrepreneurs and is cooperating with the city’s educational institutions in focusing on entrepreneurship.
