British Hospitality Sector Wants 1,00,000 Work Permits A Year

The hospitality industry of Britain has demanded the Government to allocate 1, 00,000 Work permits for UK every year to its sector. The industry employs over 4.5 million strong workforce in which EU migrants comprise of the 15 percent. In some crucial areas such as London and other places their count may rise over 65 percent.

The British Hospitality Association, President Ufi Ibrahim says that "closing down flows of migrant labour would be "catastrophic" for the hospitality sector and could force small businesses to close."

Once after the formal exit of the Britain from the European Union, the Demand for work permits may rise over 100 000. Construction and health sector which rely primarily on foreign workers will have to face a labor shortage.

The initiative to introduce regional visa is under discussion as every area needs a workforce, for instance, fruit-picking in agriculture industry has always relied on low-skilled workers from EU and non-European Union countries.

The proposal for a regional visa, based on Canada and Australian model of the immigration system. It becomes difficult for the industries to fill up the vacancies without the migrant influx.
