Canada Invites More Migrants From Bangalore, India

What has Canada’s increasing population, lowering birth rates and declining indigenous population got to do with India and the city of Bangalore?

Canada would love to receive skilled and semi- skilled immigrants from India and especially from Bangalore,the country’s most skilled city. Canada is encouraging people from Bangalore to come and stay in Canada, and asking Bangaloreans to make Canada as their permanent residenence to fill the vacuum that Canada is facing.

Recently, David Johnston, Canada’s Governor General launched a full fledged, consular general’s office at the World Trade Centre (WTC), Yeshwantpur. Consular general’s office, a superior body than Canadain Trade Office was also established in Bangalore, in 1996. That means people across South India and Bangalore can avail immigration and visa services in the city. It means that Bangalore will have a consular general officer who will only take up high-level issues concerning Canada. Thus, there is no need to travel to New Delhi and Mumbai to get travel-related services to Canada.

The consular general’s office in Bangalore will have the biggest diplomatic presence of Canada in India. Otherwise, after New Delhi, Bangalore will be the 2^nd largest consulate general office of Canada in India. This will happen after the increase of officials from 6 to 36. The total capacity of officials in Bangalore is 50. After this change, Bangalore will leap ahead of Mumbai and Chandigarh in terms of size of the officials. Simultaneously, the trade office in Bangalore will continue to work as a team with trade offices in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata.

Bangalore is a flourishing city, and apart from information technology, it is very good in education. Almost 600 Canadian companies have their presence in India. Out of this, 25% companies that are dealing with information technology are in Bangalore. Bangalore is the hub of South India and Canada would like to invest in South India and in Bangalore’s talent, said David Johnston.
