Arriving in the new nation for the very first time at the international airport can be a daunting task, especially for the tens of thousands of students who arrive in Australia every year.
Now Sydney airport has made the arrival less stressful, by setting up new international student Airport Welcome Desk.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Trade Stuart Ayres has said, that the desk would help international students feel welcomed.
He explained, that, as per the recent surveys, it highlighted that initial 24 hours are crucial for students forming their perspectives about studying as well as living in New South Wales. Experience has shown that, implementing simple gestures such as welcome desk does encourage students to return as ambassadors for the state and it supports further growth in the sectors.
He also added that, the international student Airport Welcome Desk does act as a gateway, whether students are arriving in Sydney or are travelling on to the regional New South Wales to their education institution.
This particular facility is funded by Study NSW Destination NSW, as well as key education partners, which does include the NSW universities, TAFE NSW, NSW Dept. of education and English Australia. The welcome desk is also supported by the Council of international Students Australia (CISA).
In T1, opposite Arrivals Hall A at Sydney International Airport, the help desk service is available, which is staffed by dedicated student volunteers, who provide both guides and maps together along with information on LCD screens and iPads.
In 2014, the international students have generated nearing to $6.3 billion in export revenue for New South Wales, which is the state’s largest service export.
Nearing to 300,000 students across the globe, study at Australian universities, and a quarter of total higher education student population.
