Little India is the heartland of Indian community in Singapore which all the essence of Indian culture like temples, dresses and other Indian products.
A number of improvements have been made to the Little India vicinity to improve road and pedestrian congestion. Backlanes have been created to allow vehicles to load and unload their goods there to ease the traffic situation Serangoon Road.
The direction of traffic flow on Clive Street, which runs parallel to Serangoon Road, now also runs northbound as an alternative to Serangoon Road.
New lamp posts have also been installed along Serangoon Road. This will help remove temporary structures that are put up during light-up periods that clutter the pedestrian walkways.
The pedestrian walkways along Veerasamy and Buffalo Roads have also been widened so that pedestrians do not need to spill out onto the streets.
Over the last year, the Urban Redevelopment Authority has been working with agencies like the Land Transport Authority and the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association to implement these changes.
