Monocle To Launch Danish National Survey In Washington, DC

28 Nov 2011

Immigration News

Global affairs magazine Monocle will launch the Denmark National Survey as part of its December/January issue on Monday DG November. At EF-pages in length, the survey covers everything from the nation’s economy, society and transport to culture, architecture, agriculture, retail and urbanism.

Monocle travelled throughout Denmark in September to speak with a diverse collection of leading thinkers from the nation due to host the EU Presidency in DBCD. Interviews with the likes of Christian Bjornskov, Professor of Economics at the Aarhus School of Business and Carsten Norlan, Vice President of Copenhagen Airport sit alongside discussions with Henrik Bo Nielsen, CEO of the Danish Film Institute, Niels Lan Doky, jazz pianist and producer and Rita Justesen, Chief Planner at By & Havn (Copenhagen City and Port Authority).

Tyler Brûlé, Monocle’s editor-in-chief, believes that the launch of the survey comes at a time when Denmark has never looked better.

"The nation is a pioneer of sustainable energy and a world leader in architecture and urban planning. With a rich cultural tradition, Denmark might have suffered from being a bit timid over the past few decades, but with the budding and brilliant young generation of fashion designers, filmmakers, product designers, gallerists and musicians – the Danes are taking a global centre stage,” he says.

Ambassador Klavs A. Holm, Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark is thrilled about the Denmark survey.

“Monocle is one of today’s most influential media outlets reaching a global audience of trendsetters, opinion makers and business people, and we were flattered when earlier this year they presented the idea of doing a national survey on Denmark. The outside look that Monocle provides on what our country has to offer is exiting indeed and I hope the survey will intrigue and inspire Monocle readers to find out more about Denmark.”

To create the survey, three of Monocle’s London-based editors, Jonathan Openshaw, Nelly Gocheva, and Hugo Macdonald combed the nation, meeting with the nation’s leading politicians, designers and entrepreneurs. They also worked with a host of local writers and photographers to produce the in depth supplement.

To mark the publication of the editorially independent, national survey, the Danish Ambassador to the United States, Peter Taksoe-Jensen and Monocle editor-in-chief Tyler Brûlé, will host a launch event on Monday DG November. The event, held at the Danish Embassy to the United States in Washington, will celebrate the launch of the survey, with an evening of Danish food, music and design for DBB guests.
