For many, 4th July is about celebrating America. It is day to spend with family and enjoy great food and fireworks. For the immigrant workers, both their families and communities. This day is dedicated to celebrate the promise of America. It is getting fair shot and realizing the American dream, the same dream which has motivated so many to take the unimaginable risks in order to become part of the great nation.
From Albert Einstein to Mother Jones, the immigrant workers from all over the world have contributed to the social fabric of America and made this nation what it is. Yet the newest generation of immigrants do continue to wait for the elected official to wake up, what is right and provide the protection they desperately need in order to contribute their share. The president Obama’s executive action on immigration was one small step forward but it was only a minimal response to the real crises that has grown under his watch.
The fact is American People, immigrants and their families do deserve much better than the deafening silence of the elected official or the feigns of exasperation that nothing can be done.
The coming presidential election does offer all an opportunity to change narrative as well as discourse of inaction surrounding immigration. It does offer a chance to question the leaders, especially those running for president, on where they stand. What are their specific policies which will give real hope to millions of immigrant workers and their families? Will they publicly commit to solve this, within their first hundred days or not? For the sake of millions of families, we must be willing to demand real and substantive answers to these questions now.
The stakes are higher especially from each of them, regardless of the party the presidential candidate belong especially from the hard working families to demand more.
Working together to achieve the real reform, we can empower all workers to chase the American dream. But we cannot do so if the elected leaders continue to ignore this issue. To create better America, we believe in America’s amazing immigrant promise/
Creating the better America, we believe in demands that our leaders should be ready to embrace the responsibility they have to fulfill America‘s amazing immigrant promise. The comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship is one step in making the American dream a reality and fulfilling the America’s immigrant promise. This July 4th, let us declare our independence from political indifference and demand our elected leaders and especially those running for president, live up a higher standard of leadership. Let us solve this problem now, not later. Because when we do, millions of families and this nation will have better life because of it.
