The relationship between business and universities in the Asia pacific region is being strengthened with new initiatives announced by Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie, Bishop.
She added, an expansion to the New Colombo plan would improve the future prospects of students and will help in deepening the engagement between universities and business in the region.
3NCP initiatives announced and include the internship and Mentorship Network, an online portal that would connect NCP students with businesses offering internship and mentorship opportunities.
The Mobility Partners Programme does aim to cultivate Partnership between universities and business and Business Champions Initiative sets out to assist business to promote overseas study experiences to students.
Barney glover, Universities Australia chair Proffessor added, The New Colombo Plan is a magnificent programme to improve the international experiences and connections of Students, which is significant for Australia, it is part of the globalization trend,
He stressed, that number of students studying in offshore has recorded steady growth since last 5 years. Australia can presently boast that nearing to 15% of the graduating class of bachelor degree students have some offshore study experience, twice as many since 5 years ago.
Attitudes of employers and opinion leaders towards overseas study have found that mobility programmes add to students’ capabilities and strengths, this has proved by Research conducted by Universities Australia. In particular, employers have noticed enhanced independence, greater potential to build networks, a desire to stretch boundaries and have beneficial exposure to different societies as well as cultures as positive attributes for globally mobile students.
Universities Australia has been working closely with Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Australian Industry Group, Business Council of Australia and Australian Collaborative Education Network to develop and now implement the National strategy for Work integrated learning in University Education.
The strategy aims to improve graduate employability by better linking employers, university students and graduates to improve overall capacity to drive innovation and productivity.
