UK Has Launched 'GREAT Scholarships' Programme For The Indian Students

On 12th March, 2014, the British council has launched ‘GREAT Scholarships’ programme which will lay its emphasis on rendering financial help to the Indian students, who are keen to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom. Almost 370 scholarships, which are worth 1 million pounds, will be provided entirely to the Indian students by the Council.

There are 36 institutions of education throughout Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, which are offering 260 undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Several educational institutions including top educational institutions such as London Business School, University of Birmingham, University of Northampton, and Leeds Trinity University are covered under the launched Scholarships programme. All the willing students who are planning to get enrolled for the academic sessions of September 2014 or January 2015 can apply for scholarship at present.

Sujata Sen, East India Director, has informed the British Council that the scholarship program, which was recently launched is a part of the Great Britain council’s campaign, that has commenced in the year 2012. At present, nearly 30,000 Indian students are pursuing their higher studies in United Kingdom. Sujata Sen has said that  in addition to the scholarships, a new rule for visa has been put into effect , through which the students are authorized to get employed in any venture of entrepreneurship after their completion of their course of study.  The prominent courses pursued by the International students are Post Graduate courses in Engineering, Medical Sciences, Bio-Sciences and Management. 13th March, 2014 had been the intended date to begin the 2-day educational seminar. All the queries pertaining to the admission procedure to the universities of the United Kingdom were addressed in the session.

The experts briefed the students about the norms and the admission process of visa. The tuition fee, on an average, for Arts and Humanities will be in the range of 8,000 pounds to 12,000 pounds per year. The cost for Science subjects would range in the range of 8,500 to 25,000 pounds per year. The cost of living expenses would range from 750 pounds to 1,000 pounds per month.

Sujata Sen has added that the RoI (Return on Investment) for pursuing studies in UK universities is relatively high, when compared to that of other countries. It is for this reason that many students are opting for colleges in the United Kingdom.
