New Post-Study Work Visa Arrangements For Overseas Graduates

Australia Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will introduce a new post-study work visa in early 2013 for foreign graduates who hold an Australian Bachelor's, Master's or a Doctoral degree.

The new post-study work arrangements are an additional visa in the existing temporary skilled graduate (subclass 485) visa. Subclass 485 visa allows overseas graduates with skills and educational qualifications to remain in Australia for an additional 18 months after study.

Post-study work visa of the subclass 485 will be available for those overseas students who had lodged their first Australian student visa application only after the introduction of the genuine temporary entrant requirement (GTE) on November 5, 2011.

Visa Requirements

• Visa applicants should have graduate from an Australian educational institution
• Educational degree should be a Bachelor's, Master's and/or Doctoral degree.

Visa Features

Graduates who have completed a Bachelor's degree, Master's by coursework degree or Master's extended degree would be eligible to apply for a 2 year post study work visa.

Graduates who have completed a Master's by research degree or a Doctorate can apply for a 3 or 4 year post-study work visa respectively.

Other graduates may be eligible to apply for an 18 month subclass 485 visa
