The number of foreigners in Copenhagen with a Master’s degree or PhD has grown by 22 percent over the last five years. This is increasing the productivity of local businesses by up to 15 percent and creating growth in the Capital Region of Denmark.
Figures from Statistics Denmark show that a total of 7,300 highly skilled foreigners are living in Copenhagen today. Moreover, the percentage of the total number of highly educated foreigners in Denmark that are living in Copenhagen increased from 25 percent to 27 percent between 2008 and 2012.
Within recent years, the City of Copenhagen has focused on attracting more highly skilled foreigners. Citizen Service in Copenhagen, in collaboration with the International Citizen Service (ICS), has brought all the relevant authorities together. This will make it easier to get help with CPR registration, tax, Health Insurance Cards, EU registration certificates and more. In addition, the Copenhagen Business Centre provides counseling each year to hundreds of foreigners in the Danish labor market and in self-employment.
Moreover, the City of Copenhagen is contributing to a major more international talent to Denmark and Copenhagen in the future. Copenhagen Capacity has taken the initiative with ‘Talent Attraction’ that will be up and running by the end of 2013. The goal is to establish Copenhagen as a destination for global talent for the benefit of the business community.
