38% Rise In Student Visas Issued By Australia For Indian Students

Australia is presently rising to be popular destination for students belonging to an Indian origin. During the year, 2013-2014 about 34,100 visas were issued to Indian students and recorded 38% rise when compared to last year.

Even though Chinese students have outnumbered Indian students, the growth in student visas granted to Chinese nationals was much lower at 12% by issuing 60,300 Chinese students visas during the years 2013-2014.

As per the International Migration Outlook -2015, a study released by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and development visas have been granted by Australia to international students in totality, and it has been grown since last three years, reaching 2.92 lakh in 2013-2014 which is 13% rise over the previous years. One in six in Australian university belongs to foreign origin states the study.

We find a major attraction for Indian Students is Temporary Graduate visa(subclass 485 visa) this visa enable the eligible graduates with an opportunity to gain a short amount of practical experience in Australia following their studies.

This particular visa has two streams graduate work stream and post graduate work stream. For the former, the student should have a qualification that relate to an occupation on the (SOL). We find wide range of medical professionals as well as engineers, software developers, accountants, solicitors and also vocation such as electricians, carpenters and plumbers are covered by the SOL.,

The tenure of such visa is up to eighteen months. The post-study work stream is for those students who have graduated with a higher degree. Its tenure can be up to four years.

 As per the spokesperson from Australia’s dept of immigration of border protection. On June 30, 2015, there were about 4,419 Indians who were holding subclass 485 visas representing about 16.8 % of all visas in this particular category.

In addition to having obtained qualifying degree in Australia, students who apply for subclass 485 visa do require to meet English language requirement.  Previously we find the (IELTS) international English language test system was recognized for this purpose. On April 18th, 2015, there was a legislative change that in addition to IELTS also allows various other tests, A test on English as a foreign language internet-based (TOEFL-iBT).

Besides being attractive for student community for the third year in a row, India has been considered to be source nation under Australia’s regulation migration program with 39,000 visas being offered to Indian national during the 2013 and 2014. This constituted about 21% of visa granted under the Migration program. China has followed next with 26800 visas being issued and UK third place with 23,200 visas being offered to UK nationals.

India’s skilled workforce has continued to be in demand. Even the number of subclass 457 visas issued to skill works in totality is decreased by 22% to 98600 in 2013-2014, for the second year in a row. India has been the top source nation with a grant of 24500 visas. India followed by the UK and then China with 16700 and 6200 visas respectively being granted under this category.
