According to a recent survey to research by Norstat, a Norwegian research firm, Danes have more confidence in temporary staffing firms finding them new work than job centers. The survey was conducted on behalf of the Danish Chambers of Commerce and the Association of Temporary Recruitment Agencies.
The Association of Temporary Recruitment Agencies’ General Secretary, Jakob Tiegte, commented that they believe that the development is due to the growth in temporary industry, as the temporary recruitment agencies are very professional. He said that they focus on creating development opportunities and good jobs for those who choose to work through recruitment agencies.
Though previously most Danes considered this as a controversial employment solution, temporary employment is now seen as positive. Nearly 70% of the surveyed population thought that temporary employment is a good stepping stone to permanent work. 78% of the surveyed population think that unemployed individuals should accept temporary work through agencies, and 63% of Danes are prepared to work through a recruitment agency if they became unemployed.
The media generally hears about temporary recruitment agencies with relation to so-called underpayment scandals and ‘social dumping’. However, the majority of temporary agencies in Denmark many years ago, pulled out of a strategy that involved poor conditions and wage dumping for temporary workers. Instead, the Danes have chosen a method of temporary work that is a safe way of working flexibly. Jakob Tiegte said that they would rather compete on delivering the right employee for the right job, and do it professionally and quickly for customers.
