The IBEC-based body Irish Software Association Skillnet claims that nine out of ten graduates from its Cloud Careers conversion program have succeeded in finding work. Developed in association with VMware, the Cloud Careers Program is aimed at job-seekers interested in starting a career in cloud computing.
Since its inception in 2011, more than 95 job-seekers have participated in the program with 90% of participants gaining employment with firms like Dell Software, VMware, Abtran, EMC, Trendmicro and VCE. A further 5% have gone on to higher education.
IDA Ireland’s 2012 year-end results show that with almost 4,000 jobs created in the industry last year, one of the economy’s strongest performing sectors is IT. Anyone experienced in the cloud computing or interested in learning this can go to study/work in Ireland.
The network runs more than 60 programs every year, from 2-day courses to Post Graduate degrees and more than 3,500 executives and software professionals have taken part in the ISA Software Skillnet Training Programs over the past six years.
Equally, in the past three years, over 250 unemployed people were provided with free places on ISA Software Skillnet courses.
Chairman of ISA Software Skillnet and Director of Rapt Touch Ltd., Niall O’Cleirigh explained that, in the ICT sector, Cloud computing is one of the rapidly-growing technologies globally. The Ireland Government realizes this and the enormous potential of cloud computing in creating jobs, which is reflected in their ICT policy's focus on cloud computing and articulated in the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs.
O’Cleirigh said that Cloud computing serves as an opportunity for Irish job-seekers to pick up roles that will be created in the sector.
