To counter the problem of unemployment by helping the youth acquire specific skills, the Delhi state government will start a skill development centre in August in collaboration with the Institute of Technical Education, Government of Singapore, said Delhi Higher Education Minister A K Walia on Thursday.
He said that the centre would begin two skill development courses in hospitality and retail merchandising. Walia said that 640 students would get admission from August. These students would be jointly certified by the Government of Delhi and the Government of Singapore.
On Thursday, Walia met a delegation from Singapore led by N G Cher Pong, the deputy secretary, policy, Ministry of Education, Singapore and the officials and held discussions on the training courses. Walia said that the state government has allocated 37.01 acres of land in South Delhi for setting up the centre.
