American Institute In Taiwan To Launch A New System For Taiwanese

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), said that it is launching a new system later this week for applicants of Taiwan who are applying for US no- immigrant visas in an effort to make visa processing more efficient.

In the absence of diplomatic ties, AIT that stands for the US interests in Taiwan, will undertake the processes of  interview appointment, passport delivery system, fee payment, etc. and these will be launched on 1^st March, according to AIT .

Consular officer at AIT, Elizabeth Jones said that they are trying to provide better consular services and make things simple and easy for candidates applying for visas to the US.

The new system that is about to be launched is intended for candidates applying for US non-immigrant visas, such as work visas and student visas, Elizabeth Jones added.

AIT said, under the new system, candidates applying for a visa can schedule an appointment for a visa interview, check status on visas issued and pay processing fee by using a single website.

Jones said that it will select some locations in and around Taiwan and offer free delivery, so that applicants can make a choice to pick up their passports and visas.

Mark Zimmer, spokesman of AIT, said that it had contracted with courier service, ‘Chau Feng Express’, which has 50 offices in Taiwan.

AIT said that applicants having queries can take assistance from call center on how to use the system. Passports and visas will be home delivered free of cost.

Jones said nationals of Taiwanese who are travelling under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) to US will not be affected. To enter into the US under the Visa Waiver Program, online travel authorization is necessary.

Starting from Friday, particulars of the new system will be made accessible on AIT’s website.

US missions in South Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India and Thailand are already making use of this visa application system.
