Applications For H-1B Visa Reach Its Cap In Just 5 Days
11 Apr 2017
It’s just a week ago that the US government began accepting applications for H-1B visas for the year 2018. The H-1B is mostly issued to the overseas tech workers. The USCIS started taking H-1B applications for the fiscal year of 2018 on 3rd April 2018 and reached the mandatory 65,000 application cap within 5 days only.
The United States Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) stated that “they have already maxed out, hitting the limit of 65,000
H-1B visas set by Congress and an additional 20,000 visas that are reserved for applicants who have master's degrees.” It is the 5th year in a row when the cap was met within 5 working days.
The USCIS also announced that it has received an adequate number of H-1B pleas to fulfill the 20,000 visa US advanced degree. Also coined as the term ‘master's cap’
The USCIS further added in its statement, "However, please keep in mind USCIS suspended premium processing April 3 for up to six months for all H-1B petitions, including cap-exempt petitions. Petitions filed on behalf of current H-1B workers who have been counted previously against the cap, and who still retain their cap number, will also not be counted toward the congressionally mandated FY 2018 H-1B cap."
Although unlike past years the USCIS has not announced yet that how it is going to regulate the successful applications. Up till now the USCIS had been making the selections through computerized draws.
