During the visit of Christopher Pyne, the Australian minister for training and education and Adam Gilchrist, the first ambassador for Australian education in India, the point was once again highlighted that Australia is most preferred destination for the Indian students especially for higher studies.
In Delhi, this year, as per the reporters, it has been stated that nearing to 48,500 students has already gone to Australia from India to pursue higher education. Pyne, Minister for education has also added that govt is interested in expanding the educational ties with India in order to research the collaborations between the top institutions in both nations as well as interested in linking the schools in India as well as Australia.
The minister added, In Australia, the number of Indian students is growing around 15% annually, we also interested in building a stronger relationship between educational institutions in both the nations. A significant development has taken place during the minister Pyne’s visit, it was announced that Indian government would soon recognize the pathways and foundation courses are offered by Australian colleges.
The MOU( memorandum of understanding) has signed between Smriti Irani, the human resource development minister and Pyne. This agreement would facilitate the credit transfers and it will also offer mutual recognition of qualification between the two nations.
The recognition of Australian pathways as well as foundation courses in Vocation education & training (VET) sector by India is considered as a big step for Indian students who choose to return to work in our nation (India) or they can take up further studies.
The VET providers in Australia include community as well as adult education providers and private providers and agricultural colleges, industry skill centres, community organization , enterprise and commercial training providers. In addition, few universities and also schools do provide VET.
Pyne further added, that , Australian VET system when compared with other system it is stronger and it is designed to address the work places which require specific skills requirement for different industries. There is strong connect between the Australia’s Vet and Modi, Indian Prime Minister vision to build the skilled work force in India.
Foreign students who successfully complete the university degrees in Australia, it enables the foreign graduates to gain the work experience which is practical in nature after they successfully complete their graduation, thus it enhances their overall international study experience.
After completing their studies, the students can be under the subclass 458 visa category, they can work in Australia for a period nearing to 18 months to 4 years and there is also an option to apply for PR (permanent residency).
This particular programme is considered to be big incentive for the Indian as well as other international students who have completed their masters, bachelors and doctorate degree in Australia. The minister added, they are also allowed to work for 20 hours a week during their courses,
Australia’s Group of Eight (G8) has also sent their representatives to India as a part of the education delegation, during the visit of Pyne, educational minister. As per the new agreement, the G8 universities would look towards attracting more top students from India.
