Australia Confirms 2014-2015 Migration Program

Australian government has set the migration program for the year 2014/2015 with 190,000 places in total.

Skilled immigrants were allotted 128,550 places who include employer sponsored, business and general skilled immigrants. Family immigrants were allotted 60, 885 places and special eligibility migrants like former permanent residents were allotted 565 places.

Government of Australia lays down migration program and plans for permanent immigration every year. Australia would benefit economically by focusing on long term and immediate skill shortages in the labor force and socially through family reunification, according to a spokesman of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

The structure and the extent of the program was build after consulting stakeholders across Australia, and considering other factors like economic, overseas migration, labor market trends and demographics, he added.

Changes have been made within each stream with the overall program remaining the same. Places have been added for employer sponsored category while skilled independent category places have been reduced.

Child and partner categories as well as contributory parent have been increased to support family reunions.
