Chefs, wall and floor tilers and bricklayers will be added to the Skilled Occupation list (SOL), effective 01 July 2014, to meet the skill requirements of Australian economy.
Andrew Robb, the Minister for Trade and Investment, and Senator Michaelia Cash, the Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, have announced the addition of these occupation to SOL.
Addition of chefs to SOL indicates that there is a shortage of supply in this occupation besides a probable strong growth in the field of cafe and restaurant.
Andrew Robb said that the inclusion of chefs and building and construction occupations will make sure that Australia can fill workforce needed for the tourism infrastructure.
The Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency known as AWPA provides proposals on SOL annually to make sure that it acts in response to the changing skill needs of Australia’s government.
Senator Michaelia Cash said that AWPA examines data like labor market, general economic and demographic data, education and training to ensure that the occupations that the country is in need are balanced.
The existing occupations in SOL remains the same, which presently constitute 188 in total. People applying for the independent or family sponsored points tested visa or temporary graduate (subclass 485) graduate work stream use SOL.
