Australia Extends Specialized Short Term Visa Period To Six Months

In a bid to allure overseas skilled nationals to Australia for short period in extremely specialized job, the Australia government has extended the visa duration from three months to six months.

Overseas nationals wishing to work in Australia either for a short period need to obtain a visa. The Temporary Work Short Stay Activity Visa of Subclass 400 is a structured for overseas nationals who seek to enter and reside in Australia for short-term highly specialized employment.

Effective 23 November 2014, this short term visa would enable the holder to reside in Australia for a period up to six months, presently, this short term visa is valid for a period of three months.

This visa is frequently used by individuals who would have already applied for ETAs and Business Visitor Visas for limited employment opportunities.

Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) said that this amendment has been made to make visas more flexible for businesses.

It is expected to be encouraged by businesses that require specialists for careful short term periods

Proofs regarding the nature and significance of a project, requirement of specialist skills, contractual obligations, details of number of Australians to be appointed on a project and training period for an Australian, need to be offered by the Businesses.

Sources said that Australian government has steadfast to minimize paperwork; an augmented level of compliance and monitoring has been observed which encourages government’s strong dedication to sustain integrity.

During the financial year 2013-2014, the number of individuals turned back at airports raised by 25% to 3,073. On the other hand, the number of sponsors approved rose from 217 to 365 and the number of sponsors supervised rose from 1,857 to 2,223.
