Australia has rolled out as the most desirable destination for potential immigrants, and the new statistics has proved the country is luring more immigrants to its shores.
According to the figures revealed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), 28% viz. 6.6 million people of Australians were born overseas. The count has hit the record for the first time in 120 years.
Reportedly, the figures also revealed the details of the people who are coming from various countries and settling in Australia. Most people have headed from the UK, followed by China and India.
ABS showed that people from the UK formed the largest group of immigrants representing 5.2% of Australia’s total population. New Zealanders accounted for 2.6%, Chinese constituted 1.9%, Indians represented 1.7%, and 1% of people have come from Vietnam and Philippines.
The report unveiled that most people are flocking to Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth. Around 4,000 people entered Melbourne during 2013/2014 which recorded the highest net gain of all capital cities of Australia. Moreover, Brisbane witnessed a net migration gain of 3,500 people, and Perth noticed a net gain of 1500.
On a whole during the period between 2013 and 2014, the net migration has witnessed an annual surge of 212,700 persons, showing an increase of 2.5% when compared to the last year.
