Most popular Australian Skilled Immigration is going to see major changes, if the recommendations proposed by Productivity Commission gets green signal from the Australian government. Productivity commission has proposed few changes to the Australian government which could significantly change the way Australia chooses its migrant intake. As it goes by the saying, “when going gets tough, the tough get going”, the new changes will make the migration tougher.
Productivity Commission have submitted a detailed report titled “Migrant Intake to Australia”, to the Australian government with recommended series of changes to the rules and policies on permanent skilled migrants coming to Australia. The below are the few major recommendations:
Reduce Age Limit: In their proposal the commission has recommended the Australian government to consider reducing the current age limit of 50 years, and consider providing more points for younger immigrants.
Use Skill Occupation List (SOL) as a benchmark: The commission also recommended the Australian government to consider the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) as the sole basis of determining skill requirements for the different streams of PR program and also include applicants using Temporary Residence Transition visa.
The commission also recommends undertaking a pilot scheme which experiments the merits of supplementing the SOL with the following:
One does not know when these changes may come into existence or the proposals may be rejected by the Australian government, however it is always suggested to “Make hay while sun shines.”
