Australia’s yearly immigration intake has continued at the center of political debate with PM Scott Morrison intimating it could be slashed, and more possibilities opening up for migrants to the Australian regional areas.
Immigration took center stage in the political discourse of Australia for the more significant part of 2017 with much debate around the annual permanent intake of Australia and the inquiry of how to deal with increasing overpopulation in Sydney and Melbourne.
A plan was put ahead to send migrants to rural and regional areas of Australia for a fixed number of years prior to granting them a PR at a time when several regions are crying out for further migrants.
The Federal Government of Australia also signed two individual contracts, Designated Area Migration Contracts with the Northern Territory and the Great Victoria South Coast, offering a pathway to PR to semi-skilled migrants with normal English.
The Australian Government is working to reform our immigration program to match the needs of specific locations better, Mr. Coleman stated. “In special, we are watching closely at paths of filling gaps of employment in the Australian regional areas.”
A current temporary sponsored parent visa that will enable parents of migrants to live in Australia for a tenure of up to 05 years will be made possible during the initial half of 2019. The visa was assured in Jun 2016, while the run-up to the latest federal election but had been paused as the law it was connected to couldn’t be moved till Nov last year.
A special visa directed at promoting the South Australian economy was rolled out in Nov 2018 but is assumed to go whole steam this year with more candidates appealing for it.
The visa, initially announced in Mar 2018 during the lead up to the election of South Australian state, won’t need any capital outlay as is the case with maximum innovation and business visas.
Australia’s yearly PR immigration intake has been limited at 190,000 and has continued at the level since 2011. However, the original intake latest year dropped to just over 162,000 for the initial time since 2007 with a decrease in the skilled and family visas.
Australian PM Scott Morrison has intimated higher than once that he is in favor of capping the yearly immigration intake at 160,000. With the General election due in May 2019, it will be fascinating to see if the Australian government makes progress in this direction.
