Australia has noticed a 50 percent increase in the number of Indians who have lodged the visa applications in January for the ICC Cricket World Cup and the number is expected to surge in the following days, the High Commissioner of Australia Patrick Suckling said.
Notably, over 12,000 visa applications were received previous month, representing a fifty percent rise over the same period last year.
Sucking added that over thousands of Indians are travelling to Australia for World Cup. He said that in January itself more than 12000 Indians applied for the visa, attributing a 50 % increase from the previous year. They have received lot of applications every day. Further he added that, a joint visa scheme of New Zealand and Australia is in place from 26 January to 5 April 2015.
Reportedly, the two nations are organizing the major event after 23 years and India play four out of six group games in Australia and rest in New Zealand. And, New Zealand is anticipating 10,000 Indians approximately during the 14 February and 29 March tournament.
The high commissioner of New Zealand, Grahame Morton stated that they have seen a huge rise (around 20 percent) in tourism from India over last year. However, the exact figures will be unveiled after the completion of tournament. They are expecting over 10,000 travelers to New Zealand alone.
