Australia : Purpose And Configuration Of The Permanent Migration Program
18 Feb 2019
The Permanent Migration Program consists of three streams:
Skill Stream: This Stream improve the productive potential of the economy and fills skill deficits in the labor market, along with those in regional Australia.
Family Stream: This Stream enables Australian citizens and permanent residents to rejoin with close family members, their partners, and specific dependent relatives.
Special Eligibility Stream: This Stream grants visas for those in special circumstances that do not match into other streams, includes former residents. The special eligibility stream is a minimal part of the complete permanent migration program.
The child category is a part of the migration program and is uncapped and it is completely demand-driven. There are many visa categories under the skill and family streams, the purpose of each visa category can be found at Attachment A. The Permanent Migration Program planning level was set at a ceiling of 190000 places for 2018-2019. A Breakdown of the planning level is at Attachment B.
Since 2015, the Immigration planning level has been managed as a ceiling rather than a goal. It guarantees that the standards are not dropped to meet an overall number. Program delivery in 2017-18 was 162417 places. Historical delivery figures are at Attachment B.
