In a major decision that is said to cease the complex visa processing, the Australian Government has introduced a provision that would enable people residing in few areas of regional Australia to the test of citizenship at Centrelink and Medicare Service Centres situated locally.
Briefing the media, immigration minister, Scott Morrison said that the Government of Australia has put forward citizenship tests at 29 service centers all through the country on weekly basis starting from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to Mackay in Queensland.
People hailing from Kalgoorlie and Mackay can now take the citizenship test at their local service center rather than travelling to capital cities or waiting for immigration officials to come to their area to conduct the tests, the minister added.
Already seven sites went through partnership trails in 2012, which is now extended to 29 sites. Approximately 125,000 citizenship tests take place every year over the country out of which 14, 000 are conducted in regional areas of Australia.
It may be recalled that the Department of Immigration and Border Protection visited regional centers recently to carry out the tests, typically on a monthly basis. However, at present immigrants residing outside the capital cities can take the citizenship tests held on weekly basis in regional centers without hiccups.
