With an intention to attract more number of travelers from the Asian nations, Australia plans to overhaul the visa system. This overhaul process includes, enabling the faster processing of online visa applications and making application obtainable in other languages.
Tourism and Transport Forum (TFF) chief executive officer, Margy Osmond, has released a latest industry research on visas in Canberra that states that the overhaul of Australia visa system is vital to prevent Australia from falling as leading destinations for the profitable Asian travelers’ market.
The positive visa amendments in the countries of US and Canada are accepting more number of travelers from China, said Ms Osmond.
The TFF report has compared the visit visa regime of Australia with other western competitor nations system and found that to maintain the Australia’s fame as leading destination in the major markets such as Indonesia, India and China, its visa system need to be overhauled.
The new visa system recommended speeding up the online visa applications, making applications obtainable in languages besides English and generating "fee for service" visas to enable faster processing for individuals willing to pay more for visit visa or tourist visa.
She said that the policy that focused on developing competitiveness in high-end manufacturing, agriculture and mining industries.
She added that there is a need to have a stronger concentration on tourism; the visa changes remain the chief issue that affects tourism business in Australia.
Ms Osmond seeking meetings with various government ministers on prospective reforms to the Australia visa system.
