Australia Wipes Out Dodgy Colleges And Implements Stricter Laws For Students

30 Jan 2014

Immigration News

The most common worries for Indian Students who want to study in Australia are the infrastructural credibility of colleges and post education job prospects.

Following the swift elimination of dodgy Australian institutions a few years, many students in Australia, including Indians were left in the lurch, and the 2010 attacks on Indian students saw a further drop in students travelling to study in Australia.

Chairman of AIYD (Australia India Youth Dialogue), Ruchir Punjabi said that post these attacks, though the number of Indian students moving to Australia has dropped considerably, the implementation of laws were made more stringent. Many dubious colleges were eliminated, and immigration norms were firmly implemented.

The 3rd edition of the AIYD is being hosted in India between 27th and 30th January, 2014, with 15 delegates representing India and Australia. The aim of AIYD is to create a platform to focus on several student concerns including security, immigration, gender issues, etc.

However, officials warned that being aware of the ground reality is also important for students. Punjabi said that being aware of the difference between immigration and education is a must for students as the immigration is not an obvious consequence of education. Punjabi also added that the Visa Consultancies that help students in applying for universities and colleges should also explain this to the students.

At the 2014 AIYD, 15 delegates each from India and Australia will deliberate on chosen areas of interest like entrepreneurship, engineering, law, policy making, etc., and improve collaboration levels between both the nations. The 3-day conference will carry the themes of discussion which include education, business, art & culture and media.

The Acting Consul General of South India, Stuart Campbell said that they are creating a platform to improve the one-on-one interaction between the people both countries. Campbell added that Indians are hardworking, family-oriented and law abiding people and Australia wants to see more of Indians exploring their opportunities in Australia.
