The Australian High Commission in New Delhi has reached a tourism milestone with the record of granting more than 100,000 tourist visas for Indians in a financial year alone (2013-2014).
Patrick Suckling, Australia’s High Commissioner to India said there was a rise of 10% with regard to the number of visitors from India to Australia during the initial three months of 2014.
India holds the 11th position in the number of visitors moving to Australia. By the end of financial year, March 2014, 173,000 visitors have visited Australia and it is predicted that this figure will almost be doubled by 2020. Every year, almost 180,000 visas are issued to Indians and the average time for acquiring an Australian tourist visa is 2 to 3 days.
During the month of March 2014, there were 16,000 Indian visitors to Australia, resulting in a total of 43,800 in the three months (Year -to -date), which shows an increase of 10.4% when compared to the equivalent period last year.
By the end of the financial year, March 2014, there were total of 173,000 visitors to Australia, which shows an increase of 10.3 percent when compared to same duration last year. However, the visitors on leisure arrivals have increased by 19.6%.
