The number of Indians coming to study in Australia has fallen after reports of attacks on Indian students living in Australia.
As per latest report from CNBC-TV18, Australian student visa applications from India have fallen by 40 per cent this year, compared with last year.
In view of the statistics, Australian immigration department is taking measures to try to reassure young Indian students who may be considering studying in Australia, that the country is safe.
The Australian High Commissioner, Peter N Varghese, stated, "We are taking several measures to allay the problem. We are working on relaxing immigrations policies, conducting seminars across the world and we are launching a special immigration policy for Indian students."
He added that currency fluctuations and an unstable global economy were adding to the problem.In addition to the government measures, several institutions are offering sponsorship and incentives to attract Indian students who help to keep Australian higher education afloat and contribute significantly to the country’s economy.The High Commission says it is confident that the number of Australian visa applications from Indian students will soon rise once more.
