British Columbia Extends Tech Pilot Scheme Till June 2019
27 Jun 2018
British Columbia has modified the Tech Pilot, and announced that it will continue the Tech Pilot for one more year. It was introduced in August 2017, and has the aim of helping the promising tech sector of the province. It attracts overseas talent in 32 high demand occupations, by conducting draws at weekly intervals for selecting immigration candidates from the
British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program pool.
It issued an update on June 26th, 2018, and has also announced to extend the pilot until June 2019. It has also reduced the number of in-demand occupations to 29 from 32. Additionally, the duration of the necessary job offer, will be only one year (365 days). Previously it was a full-time offer of permanent nature.
The Program says that the reason behind this change was the feedback of tech companies, especially those belonging to the animation and digital effects sectors. Here the candidates get the job offers on a project wise basis, for specific duration.
Removing three occupations from the list of top demand jobs was based on the feedback of employers in tech sector and mirrors actual demand. These positions were:
• NOC 0113 Purchasing Managers
• NOC 1123 Professional Occupations in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations
• NOC 4163 Business Development Officers, Marketing Research and Consultants
At the time of the introduction of the Tech Pilot there was no end date. Furthermore, extending it will help the employers to have stability, and allow them to successfully plan to meet future enrollment needs.
