British Universities have put a request to recruit students from abroad after their number declined due to fear that the UK no longer welcomes foreigners. Earlier Jo Johnson has warned that, number of students from varied countries such as India was declining due to the fear that the UK, no longer welcomes foreigners.
And yesterday Jo Johnson in his first speech at universities and science minister has promised to roll out the red carpet for the worlds brightest and best who wish to study in the UK. He also added that, the govt, is stepping up efforts to clamp down on bogus applications, but genuine students from foreign nations will be welcomed.
According to the recent study, the number of Indian students visiting UK to study has fallen by 50% since 2010. Students belonging to foreign nation usually pay higher amount than those staying in the UK, and for most universities they provide a vital source of funding thus it is able to offer subsidies to home students for them to pursue education.
Mr Jo Johnson also stated that foreign students were good for the economy as they help them to forge trade as well as culture between the nations. He also stated that he is concerned that few feel that, the UK does not welcome student warmly as it used to do previously. Hence there has been a decline in student number from its key partners, most notably India.
He said, will engage and explain that, there exists no cap on the number of students who can come to study in the UK and it has no intention to introduce one. He added, we will continue and ensure that the excellent education system remain a magnet for the brilliant minds. Today’s international students are tomorrow’s world leaders. They usually take friendships as well as loyalties along with them to their homeland; hence it becomes easy to have trade links, diplomatic ties and cultural bonds.
