The government of Denmark says it needs more highly educated overseas employees to work in Denmark.
Businesses in Denmark are asking for changes in Denmark immigration rules so that it is easier to hire and retain highly educated overseas employees.
CGT (Consortium for Global Talent), a joint initiative between 18 of the Denmark based biggest international companies including Novo Nordisk, Carlsberg, Mærsk and Lego, is spearheading the demand.
Tine Horwitz, the CEO of Consortium for Global Talent points out that little has been done to simplify the Denmark immigration system despite the government’s stated desire to draw more highly skilled overseas employees.
Also a member of Consortium for Global Talent is Siemens, and out of its nearly 7,000 employees, 10 per cent are foreign, with a prediction of higher share for the future.
Morten Østergaard (R), the research, innovation and higher education minister said he recognizes that there should be a minimization of bureaucracy and that it needs to be simpler for businesses to attract and retain highly skilled overseas employees.
He added that the government is expected to present detailed proposals from the onset of next year, but Østergaard has not yet reveal what they are.
