We have been working for reintroduction of route to post study work and allow the talented students to remain as well as contribute to the Scottish economy for several months, but they have witnessed disappointing lack of engagement from government of UK. The signatories belonging to UK colleges have backed the statement of support, Yousuf added.
In an exclusive interview to the media, Yousuf has said Scotland began Fresh Talent working in Scotland Scheme visa in the year 2006 which does enable the students form the Scottish institutions to remain in Scotland for 2 years to work and also gain further experience.
This particular scheme ran between 2005 to 2008, when it subsumed into UK wide Tier 1 (post study work) visa.
Yousaf added, Scotland requires immigration. It requires bright students belonging to India to visit and study in its 19 universities which have world class facilities and then stay back and work to help develop its economy. The population of Scotland is rapidly ageing and hence it leads to acute shortage of the skilled workers. We require bright immigrants from India, in order to fill in.
