Canada is giving funds so that companies who have hired international workers can comply with necessary coronavirus measures for the latest arrivals.
The $50 million is meant to help companies in order to meet the latest health regulations to keep international workers safe during their quarantine of two weeks.
Companies and temporary immigrant workers share the duty of limiting the spread of COVID-19. The holders of work permit are still permitted to come to Canada because of their essential function in the food sector.
Like all new travelers to Canada, international workers must quarantine for a period of 14 days as soon as they enter the Port of Entry. The Canadian government is encouraging that measure as of April 15. Any returning travelers who are asymptomatic, who can’t describe a credible plan of quarantine, will be required to spend a couple of weeks in a hotel.
Companies are assumed to provide workers with transportation, food, basic sanitation supplies, and accommodation.
The government will give companies with up to $1,500 for every temporary international worker, to secure public health conditions are being fully satisfied. The funding is dependent on companies not being found in breach of the 14 days protocols or any additional public health order, a government media statement says. This program will be accessible as long as the Quarantine Act is in power and the isolation protocol is supported.
Companies and workers who do not follow could face fines or jail or both. Prior to the pandemic, the food sector was previously challenged by vital labor shortages. Every year, the agricultural sector gets about 60,000 immigrant workers, and yet almost 15,000 jobs remain unfilled.
Fruit and vegetable farms, also seafood, fish, and meat processing plants, are dependent on temporary immigrant workers. International workers in the agricultural sector consider higher than 60% of all who come to Canada below the Temporary Immigrant Worker Program.
“Temporary international works have long been important to our food supply,” Immigration Minister, Marco Mendicino, said in a press release.
