Canada Among Top 5 For Entrepreneurs

EY G20 Entrepreneurship Barometer 2013, Canada ranks among the top five countries scoring consistently high on nearly all categories of the entrepreneurial environment.

Leader, Canadian Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Program, and EY Partner Colleen McMorrow, said that Canada has emerged as a real leader in fostering an entrepreneurial culture and there's an emphasis on research and innovation in the country. She said that they value the role of entrepreneurs in job creation and Canada also offers a regulatory environment and supportive tax for entrepreneurs.

The EY G20 Entrepreneurship Barometer 2013 finds that despite Canada's favorable entrepreneurial ecosystem, nearly 3 in 4 Canadian entrepreneurs struggle to access funding. However, the lending environment is improving more quickly in Canada than elsewhere in the G20.

Leader, Government & Public Sector Services and EY Partner Charles-Antoine St-Jean, said that while there's no denying access to funding still remains a barrier to growth, 45% of Canadian entrepreneurs say it has improved, compared to only 35% across the G20 as a whole. Entrepreneurs are highly supportive of Canada's government by providing regulatory and tax regimes that have enabled start-ups and growing companies to flourish.
