Canada and one of its provinces, Nova Scotia, are introducing new immigration programs primarily to augment their economic and labour needs, which will in turn help prospective applicants from alien countries to secure jobs and migrate to the country.
In a statement on 25th, 2014, Friday, Canada’s labour secretary, Rosalinda Baldoz, stated that the country is set to implement, beginning January, a recruitment scheme titled ‘Express Entry (formerly, ’Expression of Interest’),’ which she expected and hoped would transform the country’s immigration system into a quick, adaptable, and focused one, with the objective of ensuring the country’s economic growth.
In this new scheme/program, applicants who have received a suitable and appropriate job offer or nomination under Canada’s PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) will be asked to apply for permanent residency. Thus, this program is quite different from the ‘Temporary Foreign Worker Program’ which was primarily used for filling temporary worker/skills shortages and labour needs.
Eligible applicants for the program can qualify in any one of the following economic streams: the ‘Federal Skilled Worker Program’, ‘Federal Skilled Trades Program’, ‘Canadian Experience Class’, and a ‘part of the PNP’. This program will be implemented from January 2015.
Nova Scotia’s program, on the other hand is quite different. It is seeking applicants who want to apply for full-time and permanent jobs and seek to reside in the province as per the ‘New Nova Scotia Nominee Program–Regional Labor Market Demand Stream’. These applicants also need not have a job offer on hand at the time of applying. But, there is one special requirement that they must fulfill and that is that they ought to be keen/interested in undertaking work/job in a job which has been declared as being ‘in demand’. There are a number of other conditions/prerequisites too that they must comply with (i.e. requirements that they meet) and these include criteria such as ‘age’, ‘language proficiency’, ‘work experience’, ‘sufficient funds’, etc.
