Canada Announces An Immigration Pathway For Construction Workers

Out-of-status construction workers in the Greater Toronto Area are obtaining an immigration pathway.

Canada has announced the introduction of a temporary initiative that will allow 500 construction workers who are on out-of-status to appeal for Canada PR status. The initiative will be open to those hired in the industry of construction in the Greater Toronto Area (G.T.A).

Reason for Introduction of Immigration Pathway for Construction Workers

This program is being launched later the report given to the government of Canada representing the vulnerabilities faced by these out-of-status workers, in spite of their contributions in the economy of Canada. The report observes that due to their status of immigration, these workers and their families are bound to live in anxiety, and the presence of out-of-status construction workers drives to lower wages for native Canadians.

The current immigration pathway is a portion of the Temporary Public Policy for Construction Workers who are Out-of-Status in the GTA and aims to improve the protection of few of these construction workers along with their families while safeguarding labor market of Canada. This current policy was only launched on 5 July 2019, so further information about the program have not yet been announced.

The construction workers who are suitable for the program came to Canada by the temporary workers' legal pathways, but former modifications to immigration programs produced in their termination of legal status to work.

Overall, this is an accurate move on the part of the government of Canada, states Ruairi Spillane, who is the founder of Outpost Recruitment, a principal recruitment firm in the construction industry of Canada. These workers, who have performed for years in the construction industry, can work without worry, and wages for native Canadian workers should increase.

Eligibility for Immigration Pathway

The program will give 500 places for out-of-status workers who are presently working in the region of the Greater Toronto Area. Possible candidates will be needed to recognize themselves to the Canadian Labour Congress (C.L.C), who will decide qualification and refer them to the program of immigration.

Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship Canada (I.R.C.C) has published that more details about applications will be announced during the week of 22 July 2019.
