The Minister of Canada Citizenship and Immigration (CIC), Chris Alexander, has announced major amendments to the Caregiver Program that recognizes the valuable contributions of caregivers to the Canadian families and economy.

Additionally, caregivers in a various health care professions such as registered nurses, licensed practical nurse, registered psychiatric nurses, orderlies, nurse aides, patient service associates as well as home support employees, would also have a pathway to Canada permanent residence. Qualified caregivers in this field would be capable to attain their work experience either in offering care in a health-care or in-home care facility to an aged individual or an individual with a chronic medical state or disability. This pathway provides a number of career opportunities for qualified caregivers and target employees in professions that are likely to experience labor scarcities in the future.
