Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has suggested Marco Mendicino as the new Canadian next Minister of Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship. A descendant of Italian newcomers to Canada, Mendicino serves the posting of Eglinton-Lawrence in the Toronto, province of Ontario.
He is 46-years-old and has a comprehensive background in law & served approximately 10 years of tenure as a federal prosecutor. Throughout this time, he assisted to put the members of the “Toronto 18” terror club behind bars.
Mendicino will presently be accountable for making the case for policies of immigration ensured by the Justin Trudeau led Canadian Liberal Party during the latest federal election.
The Liberals obtained a minority government, indicating that they will have to rely on opposition votes to fulfill their promises to increase immigration levels, develop a Municipal Nominee Program, citizenship fees waiving and executing the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program as a permanent program.
During their 4 years, the Liberals raised immigration levels from about 260,000 yearly to a goal of 330,800 in the year 2019. Those targets are fixed to increase by an extra 20,000 to 350,000 in the year 2021. Altogether this could intend above a million immigrants in the next 3 years.
The Liberals also put a higher importance on refugees during their latest term. They raised refugee class intake to 15% and decreased the economic class intake to approximately 58%. Family class levels of immigration continued untouched.
Presently, permanent residents need to pay CAD 530 to receive citizenship, plus a CAD 100 citizenship right fee.
The commitment to waive these fees altogether is a part of a revamped effort to change the Citizenship Act to make obtaining citizenship more accessible despite socioeconomic parameters such as income and age.
This pilot program was created to control the population drop in the Canadian 4 Maritime provinces.
The A.I.P.P allows firms in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick to hire immigrant nationals for a position they cannot fill regionally.
The pilot was continued an additional couple of years in May 2019 and is now slated to convert as a permanent program.
