Less use of penny and the expense incurred for making pennies has grown greater than their worth. This is costing the government and subsequently the taxpayer much more. The move will help save Canadians $11 million each year.

Canada's one-cent coin is the national symbol bearing the prominent maple leaf. Canadians would miss their penny but the step taken by Government is a smart move for Canada’s financial future.
