Canada Fast-Tracks Citizenship For CAF Members

The citizenship and immigration minister of Canada, Chris Alexander, announced that the country has welcomed two new citizens under the streamlined measures that have launched recently for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members.

He attended a citizenship ceremony to greet 50 new citizens and emphasized the contributions made by the Lieutenant Commander Michael Cornish, who received citizenship in Halifax on 2 October 2014. And, Lieutenant Colonel Michael McGinty who has received the citizenship on 12 September 2014 was also welcomed to the Canadian family.

 Allegedly, the new streamlined program formed a part of the government’s amendments to the Citizenship Act, which became law on 19 June 2014. The new reforms will expedite the citizenship process for permanent residents who are serving in the CF and overseas nationals who are on exchange with the CF. This strategy shows the significance of governments’ reforms to the Citizenship Act in permitting eligible applicants to become citizens at a faster pace.    

He added that they realize the significant contributions of the members of Canadian Armed Forces who sacrifice their lives to protect the values and support the country. With the help of reforms made to the Citizenship Act, the government is working hard to guarantee that eligible applicants will be realizing their dream of becoming a Canadian sooner. He mentioned that the government is happy to welcome Lieutenant Commander Michael Cornish and Lieutenant Colonel Michael McGinty to the family of Canada.
