Canada has geared up to welcome a large number of overseas students this year, announced by the Chris Alexander, minister of Canada citizenship and immigration.
A total of 103,999 study visas were granted to overseas students since January to September this year, which shows an increase of 11% when compare to the same period in the previous year accounting 93,717 visas and a raise of 26% for the same duration in 2012 accounting 84,207.
Over 50% of overseas students who enter Canada in 2013 are the nationals from five countries such as China with 29,414, France with 7,045, South Korea with 7,284, India with 3,758, and the United States with 4,847.
Canada announced new rules and regulations, in June 2014, in order to fortify Canada’s reputation as a top-notch study destination and progress services to authentic students, at the same time protecting country’s global reputation for first-class education and minimizing the latent of fraud and misuse of program.
The department of Canadian Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development introduced a plan to twice the number of foreign students arriving to Canada without transferring Canadian students by 2022. The department expects that overseas students contribute over $8 billion to the country’s economy ever year.
The minister of Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister, Chris Alexander, said that the Canadian Government is glad that the country continues to be study destination preference for overseas students.
He added that the overseas students create an expected $8 billion to the country’s economy yearly and thousands of individuals stay in Canada permanently by putting their education and work experience to contribute to the country’s economic and employment growth.
