Canada is introducing a change in the way it predicts processing times for its immigration application. This will give a more accurate picture to the candidates regarding the time it could take.

These Applicants will benefit through it:

• Belonging to The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program,
• Belonging to The Quebec Skilled Worker Program, and
• Belonging to the Start-up Visa Program.

This move will also help in giving applicants a chance to plan ahead in their Move to Canada.

IRCC has also started to project the processing times depending upon the plans of immigration levels and the present backlog.

Furthermore, in the past the, processing times were depending upon the time the recent applications took. Presently The IRCC would link it to how long it took for processing 80 percent applications in the past 12 months.

Moreover, the Officials have a belief, that the new model will permit them to be accurate, because using the historical data is not totally representative.

Ahmed Hussen Immigration Minister states that improving the method of delivery of service by IRCC was a major focus since the present government assumed power in 2015.

Working of the New Processing Time

The new calculation formula for the processing time will also consider:

1. The number of admissions in the Multi-Year Immigration Plan.
2. The number of applications presently in the queue for the Immigration Program.

The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program is a major program where the processing times are sensitive.

The IRCC had announced recently that it was returning to the time based selection process for the PGP. Earlier it had, experimented with a lottery system.

Developments

From the next year onwards IRCC will issue invitations to apply depending upon the order in which the candidates submit the online interest to sponsor forms.

The government will continue to issue Invitations till it reaches 20,000 completed applications. In 2018 the target of issuing Invitations is 17,000.
